Several things should be noted before using this database:
  • While minor bodies are small in and of themselves-- their satellites are typically smaller. As such, many parameters simply aren't known; detection is too hard. Hence, there may be empty fields. This is due to the nature of the bodies.
  • Some fields are inferred and not measured. Fields such as these appear in bold italics.
  • Currently there is no metric by which to measure the quality of an individual parameter. When something of this nature is standardized upon, such a parameter might be added to the database. Until then, viewer beware.
  • The Parent name field will open up a window with details information about the parent. Clicking on the little NASA image directly beside it will take the user to the entry in NASA's NEO database.
  • References are not completely collated as of yet; most data comes from:
    • Merline's chapter in Asteroids III
    • NASA NEO page
    • MPEC Entries
    • Johnstonsarchive's listing of asteroid/satellite pairs
